Tom Wopat and More Join Cicely Tyson, Cuba Gooding Jr. & Vanessa Williams in The Trip To Bountiful

Tom Wopat is heading to Bountiful! The two-time Tony-nominated actor and singer will team up with previously announced stars Cicely Tyson, Cuba Gooding Jr., Vanessa Williams and Condola Rashad in the upcoming Broadway revival of Horton Foote's The Trip to Bountiful. Directed by Michael Wilson, the 14-week engagement begins performances March 31 at Broadway’s Stephen Sondheim Theatre. Opening night is set for April 23.

In addition to Wopat, The Trip to Bountiful will feature Devon Abner (Dividing the Estate), Curtis Billings (The Best Man), Pat Bowie (Dividing the Estate), Leon Addison Brown (On the Waterfront), Arthur French (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Susan Heyward (Busted on Brigham Lane), Bill Kux (The Best Man), Linda Powell (American Gangster) and Charles Turner (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom).

The Trip to Bountiful centers around Carrie Watts (Tyson), an elderly woman who dreams of returning to her quaint hometown of Bountiful, Texas, one last time—even though it’s against the wishes of her overprotective son (Gooding) and domineering daughter-in-law (Williams). The Trip to Bountiful originally opened on Broadway in 1953, earning the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play (Jo Van Fleet).

As an actor, Wopat earned Tony nominations for Annie Get Your Gun and A Catered Affair. His additional Broadway credits include Catch Me If You Can, Sondheim on Sondheim, a Catered Affair, Glengarry Glen Ross, 42nd Street, Chicago, Guys and Dolls, City of Angels and I Love My Wife. His film and TV credits include Django Unchained, The Dukes of Hazzard, All My Children, Jonah Hex, Blue Bloods and Cybill. As a singer, his notable singles include “A Little Bit Closer,” “Hey Little Sister,” “Not Enough Love,” “Back to the Well” and “The Rock and Roll of Love.” He will perform a solo concert at 54 Below on February 25.
